As some of you may know, I recently went to Arizona and Nevada on a family vacation for my wonderful fiance’s birthday where the weather was upwards of 105 on the daily for the entire time I was there. Now, if you’re from Washington like I am – or from anywhere where the weather doesn’t really get up past 90 on any given summer – you’d understand that I was pretty much dying outside.
I was so afraid of getting sunburned and so afraid to go outside and having to walk miles on the Las Vegas strip during a hot summer August afternoon. After having survived, I came up with a list of a few things that I found myself reaching for every single day and things I was so grateful for having as my vacation would not have been as enjoyable if I had been without.
So without any further ado, here is my list:
This is a product I have been using for years. I started using this when I was in junior high and I was at the peak of my straightened hair days when it was all the fad. After putting this on my hair, I immediately noticed the difference when I was using my hot tools. Your hair will feel cool to the touch compared to not using anything at all, I promise you.
Anyways since I stopped using hot tools on my hair and stopped suntanning, I didn’t really have a need for it. But right before my trip I decided to pick another one of these babies up and to my surprise – they didn’t change the formula (or at least that I noticed)!
I used this before I curled my hair when we went out and when I knew I was going to be in the sun all day – it definitely works for sun damage and smells incredible!!
2/ BP Bow Band Floppy Straw Hat, $25.00 USD
Along with hair care, this is the hat I decided to go with when I was searching for a nice sun hat to cover my hair while in the sun and at the pool. It goes great with some many outfits and swimsuits – and for the price, it is very well made and not at a price point that I would be devastated when or if it should get smushed in my suitcase while traveling.
I don’t know if any of you have ever had a scalp sunburn but it can be a total B and it often times leaves nasty little chunks and pieces of dandruff-looking dead skin in your hair for a week (if you’re lucky). Highly, highly recommend getting a hat.
3/ Salon Perfect Perfectly Glamorous Demi Wispies, $2.98 USD
I don’t know about you but I glisten in the hot summer sun. And when I’m hot and glistening, I tend to wipe my forehead a lot and my foundation is way too pricey to just wipe off and not even be able to get through the day.
So my number one go-to during summer days is a nice pair of thick lashes. I’m fortunate enough in the skin department to not have very much acne or even scars that I can get away with just a little bit of concealer and some blush. And while I’m “swimming” around in the pool, I just use some waterproof eyelash glue and stick these wonderful little flutters on to add some definition to my face. Lashes just make you look so much more put together.
You can choose to go with whatever style you feel the most comfortable in and whatever brand you prefer but these Salon Perfect ones are my favorite to use as they are reusable, have a clear lash line (to blend more naturally in with my eyelid – or you can use waterproof eyeliner to hide it), and are super affordable.
Last year, I got this incredible water bottle that holds ice for literally days. In extreme weather you’re going to wish you had this.
This particular brand is the original brand of this style of stainless steel (STS) water bottles. They have 3 different sizes, the 8oz, 17oz (which both Mark and I own, he owns the solid shiny black color and
They are a little pricey but both Mark and I absolutely love ours and they work extremely well. And they’re not only just for water! Our mixed alcoholic drinks and any type of hard liquor stay really cold without any ice (given that it’s been chilled). The only thing I do want to say is to read the instructions carefully, as they do require just a little bit of extra care, but nothing major.
If there is one thing that I could absolutely not have gotten through my vacation without, it is this pair of sandals. If you’re going to be going somewhere touristy where you will be walking around a lot, I highly, highly, highly recommend getting a pair of these. I could not have thanked myself enough for getting these. I had absolutely no discomfort whatsoever.
They did take a couple wears to break them in – which thankfully, I did a couple months before leaving for vacay, but now they have completely molded to my feet. I do recommend trying these on in person if possible as I had to end up going a size down. I’m a 7.5 in most shoes/brands and I had to get a 37 but it was no biggie. Now I enjoy sporting my “momdal” look in complete comfort, SO glad these are in style right now!
I hope you guys enjoyed reading and have found these useful in any or all of your day-to-day adventures or summer getaways! If you have any other favorite vacation necessities, please comment down below – I’d love to know!
