In the email I sent out the first of last month I shared that I wanted to start talking a little bit more about health and wellness… I also said that I would be sharing more about how I use my essential oils now that I’ve had some time to play with them.
Now, I don’t know about you… But I know so many people who have gotten sick over the past few months. Surprisingly, we’ve experienced nothing but just a few sniffle days (thank goodness for Elderberry and Cold Calm). Nonetheless, I figured I’d share this amazing recipe for a 100% natural vapor rub to help you and your family get through those tough days and nights.
I also went ahead and created a FREE circle-shaped mason jar lid label for you to download – find it the end of this post!
Natural Vapor Rub
Time needed: 30 minutes.
1/4 cup organic olive oil
1/2 cup organic coconut oil
1/4 cup organic grated beeswax or pellets
20 drops peppermint essential oil
20 drops eucalyptus essential oil
OR in place of the two essential oils, you can use 35 drops of doTERRA’s Breathe blend which contains laurel leaf oil, eucalyptus leaf oil, peppermint oil, melaleuca leaf oil, lemon peel oil, cardamom seed oil, and ravintsara leaf oil.
wooden popsicle sticks (what I usually use, but you can use any spoon)
Combine olive oil, organic coconut oil, and beeswax into a regular mason jar.
Cover a saucepan with about inches of water, heat over medium-low.
- Once the saucepan is warmed up a little, put the mason jar itself directly into the pan and allow everything to melt. Carefully stir to combine.
- Once everything is melted, carefully take the mason jar out of the pan. Let the mason jar stand freely and cool for about 5-7 minutes.
- Add the essential oils and stir to combine once more.
- Pour mixture into glass jars of choice. Cover lightly and allow to set. Do not seal jars until they have fully cooled.
You can apply this to your chest as needed. If any skin sensitivity occurs, use plain coconut oil to dilute.
Due to the percentage of oil in this recipe, it is not recommended for children under 2 years of age.
To make on-the-go & mess free vapor rub sticks, simply purchase these empty deodorant containers (seriously the perfect size) and fill them like you would the mason jars.
These make for a great and inexpensive gift for family and friends – perfect as a stocking stuffer or for gift baskets! I hope you enjoyed this DIY as it is the first of many more natural health and wellness related posts.
